Massive Wildfire Grows To 1,500 Acres In Matter Of Hours

VOLUSIA COUNTY -- A wildfire that sparked sometime around 3 p.m. Sunday quickly swelled to 1,500 acres within six hours near Lake Harney Road in the Osteen area.No structures were threatened and no roads were closed as of Sunday night, according to Volusia County Fire Services. Winds are pushing the fire toward the west and northwest near Gobblers Lodge and Osteen-Maytown Road in Osteen, where more crews are fighting the fire and cutting lines.Fire officials are asking motorists to use extreme caution on S.R. 415 from Lake Ashby to Fort Smith Road, as heavy smoke is also in that area. A heavy concentration of emergency vehicles staged on Maytown-Osteen Road, along with smoke in the area, has officials asking drivers to take alternate routes around Maytown-Osteen Road when possible.
