10-Foot Gator Crossing Road Hit By Truck

Posted: 8:16 am EDT June 5, 2009

A huge alligator had to be euthanized after it was hit by a truck while crossing a Merritt Island road.

The 10 and one-half foot long alligator was struck on Sea Ray Drive early Friday morning.

The alligator survived the impact but had to be killed because his injuries were so severe.

Wildlife experts remind Central Florida residents that during alligator mating season the reptiles are on the move more often than usual.
