Taylor and Travis were brave enough to show us their scraps to WFTV Monday morning."Where were you hurt?" WFTV reporter Q. McCray asked."In the head and on my thigh," Travis said. Both were hit by a car police say Torres was driving. WFTV was there when the 26-year-old was cuffed and taken to jail. The kids, Travis and Taylor Kramer, said they were playing on Lake Page Lane, in their mobile home park in Apopka, as normal. When Torres showed up, their parents were nearby."That's when I hit my head my knee scrapped the ground," said Travis."He hit the gas pretty hard, like he was going to take off," the victims' mom, Brandi Mercer, said."I got scared and I cried because I never got hit before by a car," Taylor said.Police said Torres stopped his car and that's when Travis' dad stepped in and jumped on him through the driver's window."My husband was in the window of the car, being dragged down the road. And the guy fired a shot," Brandi said. The man let go and police said Torres drove off. They later caught him, but not before he changed his clothes and got rid of the gun."I'm happy they caught him instead of my husband, because if my husband caught him, he would've been in trouble," Mercer said. Both children are expected to fully recover from the accident.Torres' wife, Veronica Chevez, talked to Eyewitness News and said the incident is a misunderstanding and her husband should not be in jail. She says that Torres was trying to defend himself against the children's father."Right now I'm hurt, I'm scared and I'm scared for my son [sniffling]. He attacked him. The father of my child. He was scared for his life too," said Chevez.Veronica says her husband fired the shot in self-defense."The attempted murder charge is out of the question," she said.however, Travis' mom doesn't buy that."If he thinks my husband should have reacted any other way. Any parent would've done the same," said Mercer.
