Man's Own Gun Turned Against Him In Shooting

Posted: 11:41 pm EDT June 28, 2009Updated: 1:48 pm EDT June 29, 2009

Titusville police say a man with a grudge who tried to shoot another man ended up getting shot himself Sunday.

Titusville police say Jonathan Gillyard attempted to shoot Shermaine Mitchell on Mayfair Way after the two had an argument over drugs.

When Gillyard pulled the trigger, the gun jammed. That is when witnesses said Mitchell grabbed the gun and shot Gillyard in the head.

"I can't say he deserved it, but he came wanting violence and that's what he got," said eyewitness Jeffrey Giles.

Gillyard was airlifted and hospitalized. His condition has not been released. Officers said that no arrests have been made.
