WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. -- Four children were inside a Winter Springs mobile home when it caught fire Tuesday. The place was destroyed and the owner of the home in the Hacienda Village mobile home park said he blames the homeowners' association president."My nieces could've been killed if they hadn't had the presence of mind to walk out that door and shut it. It's just astonishing," said homeowner Connie Crawley.Crawley blames faulty wiring that was installed by his homeowners' association president John Tripp."They operate by word of mouth and they keep it pretty hush-hush," said Crawley.Eyewitness News first investigated Hacienda Village residents' concerns about Tripp and his undercover construction operation last September.Despite their suspicions, they said nothing has changed. Tripp and his hired hands kept up their work.As he grew more suspicious, Crawly said he contacted Winter Springs' city officials. They sent Crawley an e-mail saying there was no permit for work on his home and Mr. Tripp didn't have a license.Crawley hopes city and state officials finally step in and hold Tripp accountable before something terrible happens at another one of the homes he's worked on."There's so many homes here that they've worked on, it terrifies me. This is an elderly community. They did work on my mother's house. Is she going to burn down?" asked Crawley. The fire marshal is still working to determine an official cause of the fire and the City of Winter Springs is investigating Tripp's credentials.
