MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- According to deputies, a 67-year-old woman was raped inside her home by a cop impersonator Wednesday morning. Marion County Sheriff's deputies say a man posing as a deputy knocked on the woman's front door and the unsuspecting victim opened the door to the plain-clothed man.

"She came to do the door and he forced his way through the door and was somewhat aggressive with her, pushing her around and putting his foot on her back," said Jen Fisher of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

According to investigators, the man also put a gun to the woman's head and dragged her upstairs. They believe she may have been targeted because she lives alone.

"At that point he sexually battered her, took some money from her jewelry box and sexually battered her again before leaving the house," said Fisher.

The victim retired this year from the Marion County School District. She had been a school bus driver for more than 20 years.

Residents who live in the quiet area of Marion County near Reddick say learning of a rape nearby comes as a complete shock. Jim Van Fleet lives close to where the rape happened.

"That's probably the first time anything like that has happened in our neighborhood," Van Fleet said.

Officers also told Eyewitness News that the suspect tied the victim up and covered her face with a towel during the incident. Marion County detectives said they do not have a description of the rapist because of that.

"At this point what we're really going to rely on is some DNA evidence recovered from the scene," said Fisher.

Officers say it could take a couple of weeks for the DNA results to come back. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 352-368-STOP.

Investigators said that despite the horrific incident, the woman is doing fine.
