Two Sons Shot While Protecting Mom From Gunmen

Posted: 1:03 pm EDT July 3, 2009Updated: 11:56 am EDT July 4, 2009

Robbers shot two young men in Orange County all because they were trying to protect their mother during a home invasion. Deputies told Channel 9 the robbery was totally random.

The robbers confronted a woman in the driveway of her home in the Oaks Landing Subdivision off Apopka-Vineland Road Friday morning. When the woman’s husband and sons confronted the robbers, they started shooting.

The woman’s two sons were shot in the legs. They were released from the hospital Friday afternoon.

The attack happened in the family’s garage. Neighbor Sharon Leon described how the quiet neighborhood started booming with gunfire.

“I thought it was fireworks…then it kept going, I heard it four more time," she said.

Leon quickly learned it was not a 4th of July celebration, but her neighbors had been the victims of a violent home invasion. Kumar Bjoha’s wife was sitting in the garage when two armed teenagers stormed in.

“One came from this entrance, one came from this entrance, and both put one gun to both sides of her head” said Kumar.

She screamed and Kumar knew something was wrong. In an instant, one of the robbers had moved into the house. Kumar’s daughter and two young nieces were inside.

“I woke up and a guy came into the house holding a gun up to my dad” said Kumar’s daughter Stephanie.

Kumar grabbed the gun and forced the teen back in to the garage. As Kumar’s two sons, 22-year-old Andrew and 16-year-old Andy, ran into the garage, the suspects opened fire and shot them in the legs.

Sheriff’s deputies swarmed the neighborhood and in less than an hour they caught the suspects. The two juveniles were armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, a sawed-off shot gun, and a handgun.

People in the neighborhood call it a scary crime, especially since investigators think it was a random attack on an innocent family.

The Sheriff’s Office is still interviewing the suspects, their names have not been released, but we are told they will both face felony charges.
