Beaches Packed For The Holiday Weekend
Posted: 2:43 pm EDT July 3, 2009
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The hot temperatures mean even bigger crowds at the beach on an already busy 4th of July weekend.By noon Friday Daytona Beach was already packed with cars and umbrellas as far as the eye could see.The good news is that the water is very calm and the risk of rip currents is low. Just a couple of weeks ago life guards made hundreds of rescues, but it looks like things have calmed down just in time for the holiday weekend.Beach Patrol still has a full staff on duty staffing close to 100 life guard towers. There may be some slightly larger waves Saturday and Sunday, but Peach Patrol expects crowd control and traffic to be a bigger issue than water rescues.
