Local Parks Closed Due To High Bacteria Levels

This is one of the biggest weekends for families to visit local parks, but at three parks in Orange County the water is off limits.

Rock Springs, Dinky Dock, and Fleet Peeple’s Parks were all closed to swimming Friday because there was too much bacteria in the water. Rock Springs at Kelly Park will be back open Saturday, but the other two will remain closed.

The Greig family is visiting from Scotland and staying on International Drive. The drove an hour to visit Rock Springs at Kelly Park in Apopka, only to learn the water was off limits.

The Department of Health closed down several parks in Orange County due to bacteria levels. In Winter Park, Fleet Peeple’s park was closed because of high counts. Officials believe the high levels are probably the result of recent heavy rains.

The Department of Health will have to get two clean water samples before people are allowed back in the water. Park officials plan to test the water on Monday and should get the results back on Wednesday.
