Posted: 10:48 pm EDT July 4, 2009Updated: 11:31 pm EDT July 4, 2009

A stray firework injured a child at the Fourth of July celebration in Downtown Orlando.

Just before the grand finale, one of the larger fireworks shot towards to crowd and hit on Lake Eola’s shoreline.

4-year-old Melanie Ramos and her father Louis Ramos were treated by paramedics for burns.

An eyewitness captured the entire incident on his home camera.

“I saw her laying there and her dad rushed over to see if she was alright,” Denard Jackson, eyewitness, said. “He shielded her. Another woman was giving her ice and everyone was trying to see if she was alright.”

Both Melanie and her father are expected to recover from their injuries.
