Posted: 12:24 pm EDT July 7, 2009Updated: 12:32 pm EDT July 7, 2009

Eight cars were involved in a crash in Melbourne on Tuesday morning that caused a two-hour road closure and sent six people to the hospital, according to a report from Floridatoday.com.

Police weren't sure what caused a driver to hit several vehicles at the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard and John Rodes Boulevard (see map).

“There were a total of eight cars involved,” Cmdr. Marc Claycomb, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department, told Floridatoday.com.

According to police, a 70-year-old woman sideswiped several cars and caused another car to hit two others. Officials told Floridatoday.com that at least one person was extricated from a vehicle.
