Father Allegedly Forced Young Son To Help Dump Body

Investigators now say an accused killer had his young son help him get rid of a murdered woman’s body.

Eyewitness News first reported in June, when Alan Jett was arrested for the murder of 23-year-old Lashanda Brand.

Brand’s body was found dumped in a field along Forest City Road near Eatonville on June 22. Detectives now believe Jett used his fifth-grade son in the crime, according to documents filed in court.

According to investigators, Jett took his son to pick up a prostitute. Then he killed Brand inside his apartment on Forest City Road while the boy sat in the next room.

Glenn Meredith is a friend of Jett’s son.

“I was just talking to the son before he moved, he told me everything about his dad,” Meredith said.

The boy told investigators he knew the woman was dead, and even saw her body in his dad’s closet the next day.

When Brand’s body began to decompose and smell, investigators said Jett had his son help load the body in his car.

Investigators said Jett wrapped Brand’s body up in a blanket and had his son drop her body in the woods behind a nearby dumpster.

It is possible Jett may have planned to place her inside the dumpster, but his young son may not have been strong enough to lift the heavy body, deputies said.

“Man, that’s bad,” Meredith said. “He shouldn’t have his son doing that.”

By the time deputies found Brand’s body, her remains were so badly decomposed that investigators had a difficult time even identifying her gender. Her unique tattoos helped detectives discover her identity days later.

Jett’s son is now with his aunt in Florida. The Department of Children and Families is trying to reunite the boy with his mother who lives in New York.

Jett remains behind bars at the Orange County Jail on first-degree murder charges.
