ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an incident where a car crashed into an Orlando home while the owners were sitting inside (see map). The driver says his brakes and steering wheel locked up.Homeowner Van Nelson's morning was off to a normal start."I was up having my coffee when it was suddenly and strangely interrupted. I hear a bang come through the garage," Nelson said.AT THE SCENE: Car Smashes Into Home Near Baldwin ParkThe bang came from a four-door car that plowed into the side of the garage, destroying everything in its path."Kind of in shock at first. Can't say much about what happened," Nelson said.Joshua Garay was behind the wheel of the run-a-way car as it barreled toward the house near Baldwin Park at 25 mph."My brakes locked up and I couldn't steer," Garay said.Garay and his passenger braced for impact knowing there was no way out."I was scared. I don't know who lives there [or] if people were in the garage," he said.No one in the house was hurt. Garay got a scratch on his arm."I'm a decent driver. Never had a parking ticket or violation," Garay explained."So this is an anomaly?" WFTV reporter Ryan Hughes asked."It's the worst day of my life," Garay said.Nelson will check with his insurance company to see if it will pay for the damage. Meanwhile, Garay plans to have the brakes professionally tested to see what caused them to malfunction.
