DELTONA, Fla. -- The City of Deltona wants to increase fire fees to cover the price of new equipment, costing residents an extra $50,000 each year.Residents say they are worried this increase would open the door to even more taxes. However, the fire department says it needs to keep its equipment up to date and it also needs money to keep the firefighters it has.Residents are not sure a new fee is the answer."I think it could work if it's something that they need, but I don't think it's something that's going to pay off in the end," said Tara Goldman, Deltona resident. The Deltona City Commission must make a decision before the end of the July. That is because if it is approved, the city needs time to alert residents about the change before the upcoming tax season.
