ORLANDO, Fla. -- Police found the bodies of two people inside a home in Orlando on Saturday. They were surrounded by dozens of pets, including dogs, cats, birds and exotic monkeys.

A family member called police after finding the two inside a home on West Par Street in College Park.

Stunned family and friends rushed to the scene.

The two have been identified as Kathryn Whitson and her boyfriend Walter Simpson.

Orlando Police, Orange County Animal Control and Florida Fish and Wildlife had to clear the animals out before officers could start their death investigation.

One monkey had latched onto one of its owners and would not let go.

“You can't really describe how you feel when you respond to something like that, especially when you have two people dead and you don't know why,” said Sgt. Barb Jones with the Orlando Police Department.

Neighbor Stephanie Nagy said she has known the elderly couple for more than 20 years.

“You just can't believe that your neighbors are dead in their house and they're obviously been in there for a while, it's horrifying,” said Nagy.

In 2006, Eyewitness News was there when animal control had to take almost 30 cats from the home. The county said the pets were living in filth.

Neighbor Bernie Bogdon thought it was the same situation Saturday afternoon.

“I feel sorry for the animals because that's not exactly the best living condition,” said Bogdon.

At this point, it is not clear how the couple died.
