KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A swarm of deputies rushed to a Kissimmee middle school Wednesday morning and it was all because one student lied and told his classmates he had a gun on campus.Nearly 20 Osceola County deputy squad cars surrounded Horizon Middle School. Some parents rushed to campus and left with their children who looked visibly upset."He's freaking out," said one parent. The 12-year-old middle school student who caused the fuss told several classmates he had a gun on campus and several students told Eyewitness News he threatened to use it."All the kids in my classroom, they were scared," student Samantha Delee said. One student was so scared, he went to the office and told school officials about the rumor and pointed them to the student who had been bragging about the weapon."It's so easy to bring a gun to school and go crazy, so I was really worried," parent Diane Casanova. The school was on lockdown for about an hour. Deputies searched every locker and classroom, but never found a weapon."We were reading a book and then cops came budging on our door," Delee said. The student's parents were called and deputies took the 12-year-old into custody. He may face criminal charges because he lied, put his classmates in panic mode and had deputies searching for a weapon he never had.Parents seemed to be more concerned about what prompted the bogus threat in the first place, but no one had an answer.School officials would not release information about the student or what consequences he may face at school.
