DELTONA, Fla. -- A school in Volusia County has hired a teacher with a felony record and a history of sexual complaints.Eyewitness News has been investigating Tom Bennett since 2003.Bennett is now working as a Bible teacher at Trinity Christian Academy in Deltona. The school’s principal said he could not find any information about Bennett’s past that might pose a problem.“We have investigated every place he's ever worked and we've gotten good recommendations from every place he's ever worked,” said Principal Dennis Robinson. But Principal Dennis Robinson later admitted that he did not know that Bennett was fired from Seminole County Schools after Eyewitness News caught him forging application documents. Students there had also complained about sexually explicit writing assignments. After Seminole Schools fired Bennett, he taught in Kentucky where he was later fired.Bennett's criminal record includes felony stalking, extortion and witness tampering. He's also faced decades of sexual harassment and abuse allegations after students reported being forced to perform sex acts on him.But one student in Bennett’s current Bible class said he seems like a good man.“I mean the way he teachers...everything like that. I just think he's a true Christian,” said student Julissa Ortiz.
