Teacher Arrested For Threatening To Shoot Students

An Orange County teacher is facing charges after investigators say he threatened to shoot students and kill the principal. Jerrold Gabriel is currently on leave from West Orange High School, where he is a science teacher.

According to the sheriff's report, Gabriel was escorted off school grounds after he threatened to shoot students. Court documents show Gabriel told a guidance counselor he wanted a student to be first on a list to get into a class and he would "take a gun and shoot any student that was ahead of him on the list."

The same documents show Gabriel also threatened to kill Principal James Larsen, telling him he had 13 days to live. Larsen said he didn't alert parents because there were no direct threats against specific students.

Eyewitness News has learned Gabriel was arrested in 2006 for violating a domestic violence injunction. He has been a teacher at West Orange High School since 2003.

Gabriel has bonded out of the Orange County jail and is on paid leave from the school.
