2 Firefighters Hurt, 1 Resident Missing After Devastating Fire

Dozens of families are homeless, two firefighters are hospitalized and one person is still unaccounted for after a raging fire ripped through a Kissimmee condo complex around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters were still on the scene after 11 p.m. spraying water on the charred building that housed 24 units at the Villa Del Sol complex. None of the units are livable, and all on the top floor are a total loss, firefighters said.

A roof collapsed on two firefighters and knocked them down while they were searching the building for residents trapped inside. Both were burned and rushed to ORMC, one by air and one by ground.

Eyewitness News had the only crew at ORMC when engine 42 from Osceola County Fire Rescue dropped off an injured firefighter, believed to be from Kissimmee's fire department, sometime shortly after 10 p.m.

Other firefighters started showing up to show their support. The injuries are not expecting to be life threatening, according to a Kissimmee Fire spokesperson.

Firefighters were able to rescue one wheelchair-bound resident from the third floor.

Officials are still searching for one resident who is unaccounted for.

Eyewitness News is continuing to gather more information and will work through the night on this developing story.
