ORLANDO, Fla. -- Deputies say they caught a known-gang member with a loaded gun hanging around a popular tourist attraction late Thursday night.

In Downtown Disney is a place where people come for the safe, family atmosphere that Disney is known for, but late Thursday night, an alert patron noticed 24-year-old Frankie Gonzalez walking around carrying a handgun in the waist of his baggy shorts.

"The person was able to notify Disney security officials right away and provide direction of travel of this suspect," Deputy Jeff Williamson of the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Off-duty sheriff's deputies working a security detail at Downtown Disney responded and when they confronted Gonzalez he tried to pull away and deputies say he became very hostile.

After they got him under control, the loaded 9 mm handgun fell on the ground with 14 rounds.

Officers believe the gun was stolen and according to deputies, Gonzalez is a known gang member.

He was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and had his first court appearance Friday afternoon.

"Whenever we have a dangerous felon on the streets it's a major concern to us, extremely important to get them off the street," Williamson said.

Two years ago, Disney launched a crack-down on loitering in Downtown Disney because of concerns about gang activity. Sheriff's deputies and people around in the area say they are happy that Gonzalez was caught and no one got hurt.
