ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- It's another bizarre twist in the Isleworth murder case. Bob Ward will be allowed to attend his wife's funeral, the same woman he's accused of killing.Eyewitness News found out Ward could be using his wife's funeral to actually help his defense.
VIDEO REPORT: Suspect Attending Funeral
Murder suspect Bob Ward can come and go as he pleases from his Isleworth mansion all day as long as he stays in Orange County and is home by ten at night. But now he's allowed to go to his wife's memorial service in Brevard County on Saturday and to a family gathering afterward and his wife's family is okay with that.“What do you think the plan is for Thanksgiving?” Ward asked his daughter during a jail interview.Mallory Ward appeared shocked after he asked about Thanksgiving plans days after he was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife, her mother, Diane Ward.“Where was the sorrow, where was the grief? When we saw him dancing around in jail?” WFTV legal expert Bill Sheaffer questioned. “[Going to the funeral] smacks of a defense strategy to overcome what we saw his conduct to be while he was in jail.”The state did not object to Ward attending his wife Diane's memorial service, because no one in her family objected. Diane's daughters and her own sister testified on Ward's behalf at his bond hearing and her sister admitted to telling the lead detective to call the shooting an accident. But Orange County sheriff's investigators say Ward's very first version of what happened was that he had shot his wife, she was dead, and the gun was in their nightstand. Her blood was on his clothes and shoes.“Where is the voice for Diane Ward?” Sheaffer questioned.Since there seems to be no relative of Diane Ward's demanding justice for her shooting, Sheaffer says it would be easier for the defense to negotiate a plea deal for a lesser charge.
