Crashed Plane Registered To Oviedo Man

Posted: 8:56 am EST November 9, 2009

Rescue crews haven't been able to locate any survivors from a small plane crash in the Florida Everglades.

Eyewitness News has learned that the plane is registered to an Oviedo man.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, alert drivers on Interstate 75 called dispatchers Sunday night to report the low-flying aircraft. One caller thought the plane crashed, while other drivers said it appeared to disappear.

Officials say the small single engine plane was headed to Ocala when it crashed near alligator alley Sunday evening. The FAA says the plane had just taken off from Tamiami Airport in Miami.

Crews located the crash site Sunday night. Authorities say it appears the single-engine airplane nose-dived into the Everglades.

Homicide detectives are expected to be on the scene Monday to continue their investigation.
