SWAT Crews Surround Home, Suspect Arrested

SWAT crews arrested a dangerous suspect from inside a Port Saint John house late Thursday afternoon. They've been outside the house on Fairbridge Street (see map) all afternoon.

The 19-year-old suspect was hauled off to jail after hiding in a house at the end of the street for more than five hours.

SWAT members say he was found hiding in the attic of the home. Authorities say 19-year-old Aaron Lamar Clark was wanted for armed burglary and extorting money from an 85-year-old man.

AT THE SCENE: Man Removed From Home

Clark was arrested for extorting the elderly man back in September. He was released from jail two days ago.

Deputies say he went back to his original victim and threatened him with a gun to get more money and the victim called deputies.

Officers tried to arrest him Thursday morning but they said he fled into a house on Fairbridge Street. They believed he was inside and armed.

SWAT crews assembled outside the house by noon. They repeatedly called out for him to come out with his hands up.

They sent two robots in and then a K-9. Ultimately the SWAT members went in.

They searched the home for several minutes before discovering the 19-year-old hiding in the attic. He was brought out and taken to a waiting patrol car.

Residents were told to stay in their homes while the incident was going on.

Clark was released from the Brevard County jail on Wednesday.

Four nearby schools were placed under lock down, but eventually buses were dropping off children right next to the blockades that sheriff’s deputies set up.
