PALM BAY, Fla. -- Four burglars armed with a crossbow are on the run after police say they found a teenager inside a home they thought was empty Friday. Police say they found the crossbow in the van the burglars left behind on Lynbrook Street (see map).Neighbors helped rescue the 19-year-old from her ordeal."They are trying the doors,” the young woman told the 911 dispatcher (listen to call).911 CALL:Terrified 19-Year-Old Hides In Bedroom AT THE SCENE: Images Of Woman, Cops"They are trying the doors now,” the dispatcher told police heading to the scene.Home alone, the 19-year-old woman called police after she saw two men first try to get in the front door and then the back. Then she watched a white van roll right into her driveway."There’s a big van pulling up to my garage door,” she said."Okay, okay, calm down for me, okay? What color is the van?” the dispatcher asked."White. It's like they backed it up right to my garage, real close,” she said. While police raced to the scene, the young woman hid in a back bedroom."They might be in the house now,” she told the dispatcher."She thinks they are inside. Listen to me, okay? At this point, I need you to talk as low as you can talk okay?” the dispatcher told the woman.Police say the men did get inside, but didn't appear to take anything before they were scared off, possibly by arriving officers. The woman crawled out a bedroom window and ran to a neighbor’s house."She's doing fine. She's a little shook up, but she's doing fine,” neighbor Felix Acevedo said.Officers cordoned off several blocks after neighbors said they saw four men running in between homes and through backyards to get away."Obviously, they must have been patrolling the neighborhood looking for empty houses,” neighbor Bruce Beron said. The suspects left behind a van adorned with a "my child is an honor roll student" bumper sticker. Inside investigators found a crossbow and a Halloween mask.Police suspect they chose the house at random. The van is registered to William Porter of Melbourne, but police haven't said if he is connected, but the van may be their best clue to solving the crime.
