Tractor-Trailer Hauling Fertilizer Flips On Orange County Road
Friday, October 31, 2003
A west Orange County road was shut down for more than six hours Friday. A tractor-trailer hauling fertilizer rolled over Friday morning on County Road 545 near Davenport Road.
The driver said he swerved to avoid a car and lost control of his truck.Crews were concerned that the fertilizer would mix with the diesel fuel, potentially causing an explosion."We were able to remove the tank and set it upright to stop the leak to prevent any more environmental damage in the area," explains Lt. Mike Dickens, Orange County Fire & Rescue. No one was injured in the crash. But, this isn't the first time there's been an accident on this stretch of road.Last week, a flat bed truck carrying citrus overturned and spilled all over 545. The Highway Patrol says that, unless drivers obey the posted speed limit, crashes will continue to happen.
