Investigators are still trying to find out if lightning started a fire that destroyed a house in Orlando. As of Monday morning, there were no signs of foul play. A firefighter told Channel 9 that there's a good possibility mother nature is to blame.

"We wanted to get here as fast as we could, on the other hand, we didn't want to get here to see," says homeowner Martin Reiss.

Martin Reiss and his father, Oscar, spent Monday morning sifting through piles of rubble. The house the 79-year-old lived in burned down while he was out of town.

"I'm glad my dad wasn't home. It looks like most of the damage is toward the bedroom area. He could have been lying in bed. Roof could have collapsed. It could have been him," says Martin.

A neighbor noticed smoke coming out from the back of the house and called 9-1-1. By the time the fire department arrived, 60 to 70 percent of the house was engulfed in flames. Investigators think there's a 50 percent chance Sunday night's lightning storm had something to do with it.

"It was pretty intense. Actually, he had a dream last night that lightning hit the house," says Martin.

Investigators say they found the garage door wide open, which, according to the fire department, tends to happen when lightning strikes a home.

All that was left standing were four walls and the garage.

But, Martin admits, it could have been much worse. "He's 79-years-old. He's lived here 15 years. He lost his wife here, my mom. This is all he had left. So, it's tough for him."

An insurance adjuster was out at the house Monday morning. It looks like they will have to tear what's left of the house and build a new house. The Orlando Fire department is still investigating the cause.
