Police: Two hospitalized after gunfire erupts on I-4 in Lake Mary

LAKE MARY, Fla. — Lake Mary Police are looking for the driver who shot at another man on Interstate 4.

At least two people were hospitalized following a crash and a shooting on I-4 near Lake Mary Boulevard early Monday morning, according to Seminole County Fire Rescue.

Police Kenneth Lee Hunt II, 21, and Contara Wiggs, 21, were riding in a Ford Mustang when someone in a silver Mercedes drove up next to them and opened fire.

Police said after being shot multiple times, Hunt crashed his car, which then caught fire.

The suspect didn’t stick around after the crash, according to investigators, but the victims injured but able to get out of the car.

“The two victims basically got out of the vehicle, and then the vehicle caught fire,” said Sgt. Joseph Gowen of the Lake Mary Police Department.

Police said Hut was shot and Wiggs was hurt during the crash. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Two guns, a semi-automatic pistol and a .40 caliper semi-automatic pistol, were found in the car, police said.

Investigators said they weren’t sure if the guns belong to the victims. Earlier they got reports the incident was a shootout between both parties, but later said they believe the suspect in the Mercedes was the only person shooting.

“There was no shots fired by the victim back at the suspect,” Gowen said.

Police said Monday afternoon they didn’t have any suspects or a motive for the shooting.
