WEIRD PHOTOS: News Of The Strange SlideshowMELBOURNE, Fla. -- A Brevard County woman was caught trying to escape from police by climbing through the ceiling. The woman, suspected of starting a fire in Melbourne, is now in even more trouble.
Police say she was seen running from a trailer shed, just before it went up in flames. But, the running didn't stop there.
Fortunately, the woman did not get far. Police say she was halfway in the ceiling when an officer had to grab an ankle and bring her back down to earth.
Melbourne police say they had their hands full with Julie England.
"Different things happen, wild things happen. You just have to be prepared to respond to those actions that people do. In this case, Officer McCarty did exactly what he should do," explains Sgt. Sean Riordan.
The officer says England asked to go to the restroom to wash up, but apparently that's not all she had in mind. Less than a minute after washing her hands, she was seen trying to climb into the ceiling.
Officer Kevin McCarty yelled for her to stop, but she was determined to get away. He had to grab her ankle and pull her back to the ground.
"She had stated she didn't want to go back to jail and she felt that was a way for her not to go back jail and, fortunately, it didn't work for her," says Sgt. Riordan.
The 23-year-old had a previous battery charge on her record, but she's facing a lot more now. She was arrested for arson after witnesses saw her running from a trailer just before it burst into flames. Now she's also facing escape charges.
England is being held at the Brevard County Correctional Facility. Her next hearing is scheduled in late May.
