Auto Mechanic Accused Of Ripping Off Customers, IRS

Wednesday, June 16, 2004 – updated: 5:32 pm EDT June 16, 2004

Police arrested a Lake County auto mechanic who they say was doing shoddy work and who is also wanted by the government. Now, more customers are coming forward saying Michael Anderson cheated them out of thousands of dollars.

The suspect's auto body shop in Tavares is closed. The owner was hauled off to jail on charges that he ripped off his customers and the IRS.

Michael Anderson, of Anderson's Vehicle Repair, was arrested for ripping off his customers.

Aaron Paulk was at work when he heard about his mechanic's arrest. He claims Anderson failed to make adequate repairs on his white truck, which has been sitting at the shop for weeks.

"He has done it to many other people. I didn't find out about it until it was too late," Paulk says.

But, Anderson told us, one of his employees is the real criminal.

"This is a bunch of crap. I had an employee that was embezzling," Anderson says.

But Tavares police investigated Anderson's employee and found him innocent.

Anderson was arrested for not only cheating his customers but also the IRS.

Police expect other customers, like Paulk, to start coming out of the woodwork. If you or someone you know was dissatisfied with repair work at Anderson's Vehicle Repair, detectives ask you to call the Tavares Police Department.
