MORE INFO: Details From The State Of FloridaOSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- After Frances, even small tasks like doing the laundry were out of the question for John St. Fleurant.
"I couldn't do daily chores like I wanted to; I couldn't run errands (because of) the lack of finances," he says.
He works at the YMCA helping to run an after school program, but once the electricity went out, the program stopped and so did his paycheck.
"No lights, no school, no job," he explains.
But the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Agriculture have received funding to help folks like St. Fleurant.
Those who experienced damage to their homes, those who lost income as a result of the storm and those who are deemed income eligible may receive disaster food stamps.
The program starts Tuesday (9/21) in Polk and Osceola counties. At 8am, Osceola residents can go to the exhibition hall at Heritage Park to apply.
On September 28th, the program comes to Orange and Brevard counties. From 8am to 5pm, you may go to the Orange County Convention Center. Look for the North Concourse, Hall B to apply. Or, in Brevard, go to sites at Brevard Community College.
Disaster food stamps may not be a fix-all, but DCF believes it will help.
"If we just need to give someone a boost and make this month a little easier for you, please come down and don't hesitate to apply," says Carrie Hoeppner, Department of Children and Families.
