OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- A corrections officer at the Osceola County jail is under arrest for allegedly having sex with an inmate, after the female inmate told another corrections officer what was going on.
George Peralta Corrections Officer George Peralta's job was to drive inmates back and forth while they were on work release and investigators tell us some of the sexual encounters actually happened inside the transport vans.
The arrest report says sometimes Peralta and the inmate also drove to the inmate's mother's house and once they even rented a hotel room.
Sources tell Channel 9 the inmate was pregnant and something happened last week where she was asked to disclose who the father was. When officers suspected it could be one of their own, they launched the investigation.
Peralta is now charged with 25 counts of sexual misconduct. The county says he has been a corrections officer for two years and had no disciplinary action during that time.
Crystal PujolsThe inmate is Crystal Pujols, who had been released for a short time. We're told the affair continued even while she was out of jail. She's now back in jail on an unrelated charge of aggravated assault.
Detectives say the sex was consensual, but still illegal on the part of the officer.
"He used his powers, his position, not to force the issue, but at the same time his position is the problem we're having with. He's a detention officer, supposed to protect them while they're inside and pick them up, not have intercourse or relations with an inmate," says Al Dearmas, Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
The corrections officer has been suspended with pay while the investigation is being done. He's out of jail on $1,000 bond. Channel 9 has learned he has a wife and a four-year-old child.
