Orange County Lawmakers To Discuss Leaky Home Issue

Tuesday, December 7, 2004

Following a Channel 9 investigation, Orange County lawmakers are expected to discuss, Tuesday, why thousands of homes sprung leaks after the hurricanes. That's a huge concern for many owners of new homes. They want to make sure the problems, whatever they may be, are fixed before next hurricane season.

Orange County officials have succeeded in getting the issue of changing the building code on Tuesday's agenda. They'll have a much tougher time getting the building commission to actually make any changes Tuesday, or in the near future.

One of the reasons is that the Home Builders Association is waiting on results from its own engineers and scientists to determine why water leaked through the walls of thousands of newly constructed homes and that could take several months.

Some experts have suggested storm water seeped through walls because the stucco-like finish and paint was not applied thickly enough.
