The search for the mystery man was successful. He saw himself on TV, but it was all a misunderstanding. Investigators say the man really is an investigator, for a St. Petersburg insurance company.
As parents picked up their kids at the Gingerbread House childcare center, they were happy to find out the man has been identified and apparently is not a stalker at all.
"I'm happy. I feel so much relief. I'm happy it was an insurance investigator, not someone who would have done something," says parent Ric Singh.
Earlier Wednesday, daycare director Nancy Ryan was still showing surveillance video to concerned parents. By afternoon, they'd learned the man in the trench coat worked for Omega Insurance and was investigating a claim. The ID he showed was apparently real.
"Wonderful. It's a great relief and I know the parents in the entire area are going to be happy about that too," says Ryan.
As kids spent Wednesday learning, investigators worked to find out who had invaded their space last week, and by mid-day they hinted he might actually be a private investigator.
By Wednesday afternoon, they knew for sure. His name is Alcovia Johnson. He works for Omega Insurance and lives in Clermont.
Investigators also say another stranger sighting outside a daycare about a mile away was a different person who may have been just walking by.
At Gingerbread House, they have no regrets.
"I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Anytime anybody walks in the here that's out of the ordinary, we'll call. The safety of these kids is our most important issue," says Ryan.
The Gingerbread House has posted a note on the door explaining that there is no reason to be concerned.
A report of a stranger at a daycare in Orlando is apparently also non-related and the sheriff's office has cancelled the warning they issued Tuesday to local daycares.
