KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Mayor George Gant is out of jail on bond facing sexual battery charges. Late Wednesday morning, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed three more women have now come forward saying Gant touched them inappropriately as well. Those claims are now under investigation.Early Wednesday afternoon, Governor Jeb Bush suspended Gant, as was expected.Gant no longer works at the Osceola County Health Department but he is trying to save his job as mayor."I would hope we can work through it like Buddy Dyer did and get this cleared up and stay in office," said Gant.Gant said he will fight to clear his name. He's charged with two counts of sexual battery."It's just one of those things we gotta work our way through. It's just absolutely ridiculous, not true," he said.
But the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Gant inappropriately touched two female patients during gynecological exams. Investigators spent a year building their case, interviewing patients and employees at the Osceola County Health Department. The State Attorney's Office agreed the charges are warranted.Gant claims the charges are a result of retaliation by a Health Department doctor, Dr. Linda Galloway, who he, unsuccessfully, tried to fire. He said she has filed 30 claims against the Health Department."I tried to fire her three times, the state wouldn't let me. And, as a result of that, I think she and her staff put together some pretty provocative things," Gant said.Galloway did not answer Channel 9's request for an interview. The Kissimmee city council will now have to decide to either appoint someone to the position or move forward with a special election.
