Orange County Detectives Arrest Deadbeat Dad At Airport

Thursday, August 25, 2005 – updated: 5:15 pm EDT August 25, 2005

Detectives said it was one of the more blatant cases they've seen of a deadbeat dad. An Orlando man was not paying his child support while one of his kids was fighting for her life in a hospital.

Kevin Baginski is taken into custody.
Thursday, they caught the man who'd been eluding them for months.

Investigators said they'd been waiting for the chance to handcuff 34-year-old Kevin Baginski and bring him to jail. The reason for the bust was child support. Baginski's ex-wife said he has paid practically nothing over the past six years for the couple's three children, including Caitlyn.

Caitlyn, their 8-year-old daughter, suffers from a brain tumor and has been undergoing chemotherapy and constant hospitalization. Her mother, Amber, has had to stop work to care for her.

Thursday morning, detectives waited at Orlando International Airport for Baginski to return from a trip to California where, his ex-wife said, he was spending money training to become a professional fighter. When he arrived, investigators boarded the plane and arrested him.

Baginski wouldn't explain why he has only forwarded $17 from his House of Blues salary to his ex-wife and children. She said he now owes close to $30,000.

But now, Baginski will have to pay if he wants to get out from behind bars. He was being held at the Orange County jail and won't get out unless he can pay $2,600 of the money he owes or if the judge lets him out so he can work to earn more money.
