Tags marked each of the shell casings found in the parking lot of the apartment complex near the UCF campus. One of the bullets ended up in the apartment of Robert McKenzie.

"I was washing a dish when I heard this noise. I didn't know what it was at the time," McKenzie said.

It was a gunshot. The bullet ended up in a roommate's bedroom. She wasn't injured.

A UCF police officer happened to be standing in the parking lot talking to a group of men in a car when the shots were fired. The officer saw two men running away from the building. One of the men got away and the other was found hiding under a car.

He and the four men the officer was originally talking to were all questioned in connection to the shooting and were charged with loitering and prowling. But, UCF police were still investigating their connection, if any, to the shooting.

"At least we've got some people identified," said Sgt. Troy Williamson.

In the past year, UCF police filed a number of reports at the Pegasus Landing, ranging from burglary from an auto to sexual battery. UCF police patrol the complex with the help of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Police said they were working closely with the management on ways to improve safety.

"We're still working with them. We've got a little ways to go yet. We've got some lighting improvements, which helped out a lot," Williamson said.

UCF police must still locate the final suspect, as well as the gun involved in Monday morning's shooting. The five men arrested are Derek Shaw, Peter Roque, Krishna Holness, Jose Campos and Nathanael Desmornes.
