BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Three teenagers were safe after a late night rescue on the Indian River in Brevard County. The trio set off on a kayaking trip Thursday evening just before a strong storm moved in. The water became so rough that one girl's kayak flipped and the group became separated.
For Laticia Reyes, it was a relief to see that her sister was okay. Reyes, her sister Jessica and another friend were kayaking in the Indian River when Jessica's kayak overturned."I think I was going to die or something," Jessica said. The Coast Guard said weather conditions were rough on Thursday evening. The water was choppy and winds were about 30 to 40 mph. The three teenagers had left together from Parrish Park and were gong to a small island called Spider Island. When Laticia noticed her sister was missing, she went back and called for help.As Jessica waited to be rescued, officials said she was lucky she was able to cling on to her kayak. They said the fact that she was wearing a lifejacket saved her.
