After homicide detectives interviewed Rozier, they brought him to the booking center and charged the 18-year-old with first-degree murder.

Orlando police said Rozier admitted he shot and killed 16-year-old Melvin Eugene Smith III on October 13.

"This is about the most senseless waste of human life I've seen," said Detective Richard Ring, Orlando Police Department.

The shooting happened at the playground in The Landings apartment complex off Timberleaf Boulevard. Police said Smith and Rozier were arguing over a cell phone.

Homicide investigators interviewed several witnesses. Nearly a week later, Smith's family got their wish when the primary suspect turned himself in.
