Joedy Gray, 10, and Cherelle Wilson, 13, are in juvenile detention. Police said they stole jewelry, Christmas gifts, golf carts, and even a car from across the city. A third child, 14-year-old Octavious Gilmore, is still on the run.
One of the victims, the Cody family, just moved into their new home three weeks ago. This was supposed to be a Christmas to remember and it will now certainly be one they won't forget.
"They just came in, unwrapped what they wanted and went out through the sliding glass door," said victim Edna Cody.
When she came home from Christmas shopping, she couldn't believe her eyes. A back window was broken and many of her family's Christmas gifts were unwrapped and stolen along with other valuables.
"I'm not sure how they fit through that without killing themselves. They had to be very, very small," she said.
Just how small the suspects were was the next big surprise. Police arrested Gray and Wilson, two of three suspects in a crime spree stretching several miles across Titusville.
Police say the trio not only stole thousands of dollars in valuables from the Cody home, they stole a bike from another home, a UPS package from a third home, stole two golf carts from the Royal Oak Golf Club and eventually stole a Toyota Sienna van, even though none of the kids was old enough to drive.
Police recovered the van and found some of the stolen Christmas presents inside and one item that couldn't replaced, a wedding band.
The victims said they feel for the kids and they are going to try and put this behind them and continue to celebrate the holidays. They said the Christmas spirit was still alive and well in the neighborhood. Police, firefighters and neighbors have all banded together to help them replace what they haven't recovered.
The children are facing several burglary charges, grand theft auto charges and even charges of resisting an officer. Detectives have contacted the parents of the remaining suspect and hope to arrest him soon.
