City Employee Apologizes For "Hicks Versus Spics" Controversy

Posted: 5:17 pm EST January 5, 2006

Deltona's public information officer, responsible for a controversial skit that some called racist, apologized for her actions Thursday on Orlando radio station O'Rock 105.9 on the morning show.

Residents said Janine Gage named the skit "Hicks versus spics." It pitted white members of the Deltona city council against Hispanic members.

Gage claimed Thursday there was never a skit, just a list of jokes, with phony city announcements.

Gage received a letter of reprimand for the incident.
