ORLANDO, Fla. -- Late Monday morning, Orlando police officials started meeting about a deadly crash that happened along Ivey Lane on Friday. There are serious questions about whether a police chase was involved in the crash.Monday morning, the Orlando police department finally released the traffic homicide report from Friday’s crash. In it, there's no mention of a chase or any police vehicles being involved, but a spokesperson confirmed there is an internal investigation going on to find those answers.Eyewitnesses told Channel 9 they watched as the driver of a black pickup truck was chased by undercover officers as he left a Citgo gas station parking lot once he saw them arrive.
"Police came out running and grabbed people and he pulled off because he just panicked. They took off and chased him and ran right behind him," said resident Janice Kilpatrick.Neighbors said the pickup and the officers sped through residential streets, even running stop signs, and ultimately the pickup flipped up in the air, hitting two other cars at the intersection of Ivey Lane and Piedmont."To watch him go into oncoming traffic and demolish everything was like watching a suicide," Kilpatrick said. One driver, Edwin Alvarado, died in the crash and six others were injured, including a 2-year-old.Witnesses said the officers pulled the driver, Keynon Crow, out of his pickup and handcuffed him, but so far he isn't charged with anything. The Florida Civil Rights Association has started its own investigation to make sure the police handle the investigation properly."We are concerned about what happened and how it is resolved," said J. Willie David, Florida Civil Rights Association. So far, the Orlando Police Department has neither confirmed nor denied whether there was a chase involved, but a statement is expected from them later Monday.
