Major Weekend Effort Planned In Search For Woman

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando police officially requested the help of several search and rescue groups Friday to find missing 24-year-old Jennifer Kesse. Earlier searches for the missing woman focused near her condo complex near the Mall at Millenia.

Friday, the search expanded to various areas within a five-mile radius of her home. There are three areas search and rescue teams focused on at the request of Orlando police. They had to sort through all kinds of trash and objects, even clothing and shoes, looking for anything suspicious, and these teams have a special resource to help.

Rocky is a dog on a mission, a German Shepard specially trained to find people. His handler, Judy Thigpen, has been doing search and rescue for more than 15 years.

"Sometimes the ones you don't think are happy, turn out happy after all, so you never know," Thigpen said.

She's hoping that's the case with Jennifer Kesse. The 24-year-old has been missing for 11 days. Orlando police have been searching on horseback and on foot, but with no results so far. They've cleared several areas of woods near Jennifer’s condo and the apartment complex where her car was found.

From the air, officers designate special areas and assigned civilian search and rescue teams to each.

Everything they find is logged and mapped in case law enforcement thinks it's significant. Friday, Rocky and the others cadaver dogs were looking for human remains. But, Thigpen said, that's just as important.

"I always think about the people we're looking for and I wanna get 'em back to their family. Even if not a happy ending, you want 'em back with their family so the family can have closure," she said.

Saturday's search organized by Child Watch and Jennifer's family will be very different. They won't have the specialized training, but there will be many more sets of eyes. The family said, at this point, any little bit helps.
