ORLANDO, Fla. -- Nearly two dozen cats are now safe after animal control officers removed them from a home where the cats lived in filthy conditions.

Other animals living in the home on Par Street in College Park were not removed. That's because, Animal Control said, the 10 dogs, birds and even monkeys lived slightly better than the 23 cats.

The animals' owner, Kathryn Whitson, isn't facing any charges, but the investigation is ongoing.

"Heavy feces accumulation and not getting the vet care they needed," said Sr. Animal Control Officer Jay Miller.

Animal Control said its officers and agents from the Fish and Wildlife Commission will be back at the home to check on the remaining animals.
