ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Orlando man, shot in the chest Monday night by a would-be robber has died and the gunman is still on the loose. Police said the gunman opened fire in a stairwell at the Marina Landing Apartments on Westgate Drive.
Detectives are looking for anyone who saw something. Noel Heimburg was simply walking up the steps to his apartment with dinner for his wife when he was shot right there.Flowers and a plea for any leads are the only reminders a violent robbery attempt and murder happened at the steps to the Marina Landing apartment, but Katie Kelly will never forget."To come and destroy somebody who's trying to live happily and bring dinner home to his wife. The dinner was all over the steps," said neighbor Katie Kelly.Kelly ran out and called 911 after hearing the gunshot that hit 29-year-old Noel Heimburg in the chest. She continued to talk to operators as they had her talk with the shooting victim."I just looked at him and said I have 911. They want to know if you know who shot you. He just mumbled, 'No,'" Kelly said. She said he was shot right near his heart and he later died at the hospital.Monday night around 8pm, he walked up the stairs. At the top, a thief confronted him. The two struggled. After the gunfire, Kelly even saw the shooter running towards Westgate Drive. A search turned up nothing and the gunman is still on the loose while a wife grieves after losing her husband at the doorstep to their home.Orlando police have not released suspect details yet, but one eyewitness said the shooter was black, about 5-foot-8 and was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. There is a reward for information.
