ORLANDO, Fla. -- Eyewitness News has learned Orlando police are investigating a Howard Middle School teacher for sexual misconduct with a student. The 35-year-old teacher has been relieved of duty pending investigation.
According to Orlando police, the 7th grade girl was in some sort of "mentoring" relationship with her teacher. She alleges that, over a period of three months, the teacher inappropriately touched her.Orlando police will not comment on camera about the allegations of inappropriate touching at Howard Middle School, but a police spokesperson did confirm there is an active investigation involving a 35-year-old teacher and a 7th grader.Indications are that the teacher and the student had some sort of relationship in a mentoring program and, the girl claims, that the misconduct happened over a three-month period, beginning in December of last year. She has filed a police report, but Channel 9 was not able to see it because she is a minor. The school district did not want to do an on-camera interview about the investigation. However, a district spokesperson did confirm that the teacher was being investigated and that he has been "relieved of duty" pending the outcome.Howard Middle School's principal deferred all questions to the district, as students are in the middle of testing for the FCAT.Orlando police said they are still in the process of investigating the allegations and charges may or may not follow, depending on what they find.
