ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after she crashed her motorcycle on her bike's first ride. She was not wearing a helmet when the crash happened along Vincent Road in east Orange County on Sunday afternoon.Shyanne Cummings was taken away in a helicopter. Just minutes before she was riding her new motorcycle down Vincent Road at, witnesses said, speeds up to 100 miles an hour. Then Shyanne lost control"I was just freaking out. It was just really something to see," said eyewitness Trevor Duncan, who saw the crash from his porch. "I saw the motorcycle tumble and land in the ditch. I saw the young lady flip two, three times in the air and land in the bushes."
What made things worse was she wasn't wearing a helmet and, troopers said, the teen didn't even have a license to drive a motorcycle. "She's 19 and a very inexperienced driver, let alone a motorcycle," said Trooper Kris Neutzling, Florida Highway Patrol. It was a motorcycle, troopers said, Shyanne got just 20 minutes before the crash.Barney Rentar teaches motorcycle safety. He said many bikers can avoid accidents by taking a safety course."It greatly improves their safety margin," he said.Troopers said it was obvious Shyanne didn't take any education courses. Witnesses said it was obvious the teen was just heading for a fall."The throttle was open. They were just really pushing it," Duncan said.A bill before the Florida House of Representatives could have prevented the accident. The proposed legislation would require safety training and proof of endorsement before a motorcycle can be purchased or registered.
