Mother Warning Parents About Kids Watching "Pocket Porn"

An Osceola County mother is warning other parents tonight about a new problem facing teenagers, "pocket porn." Joanne Krygowski said kids are easily surfing websites on their portable game systems and there's no way to catch them.

It is the hottest hand held game system on the market, PSPs or Play Station Portables, complete with wireless Internet.

"Whatever you can do on a laptop, as far as multi media, music, video or photos, can be done on a PSP in a more concealed manner," said computer expert Louis Collado.

That's the problem for mother Joanne Krygowski, who thought she set up her son's PSP to lock him out of certain websites.

"When I set parental control, I expect my son will not be exposed to certain elements," she said.

But she was surprised last weekend when she and her husband caught her son looking at porn.

"As soon as battery wears down, the parental controls reset," she explained.

Besides that, the manual tells you how to reset the controls. So if your children read it, they know how to bypass your safety net.

Obviously parents can't look over their children's shoulders at all time, and another issue is that with the PSP, you can't check the websites they've been visiting because, with one click, the history becomes history. It’s a weakness that 13-year-old David Krygowski said all the kids know about.

"On PSP, click one thing and it will erase the whole thing. All the sites, everything," he said.

Eyewitness News checked and found several sites promoting PSP porn. With the ability to clear the handheld’s history, the sheriff's office is aware of its dangerous potential.

"Since you can get on the Internet, it's only a matter of time," said Sgt. Kevin Stenger, Orange County Computer Crimes.

Eyewitness News contacted the corporate headquarters for Sony and did not hear back from a spokesperson.

Joanne Krygowski said the company told her that it was a parent’s responsibility to monitor what children are viewing on the PSP.
