Dog Receiving Award For Dialing 911 To Save Owner's Life

Posted: 11:13 am EDT June 19, 2006

A dog from Ocoee will receive a one-of-a-kind award Monday night. That's because the 2-year-old beagle dialed 9-1-1 and saved her owner's life.

Kevin Weaver went into a diabetic seizure in February. His dog Belle is trained to recognize that, so she used her teeth to bite the 9-key on a cell phone, which dials 9-1-1.

Emergency crews quickly arrived and saved Weaver.

Belle will get the Vita Wireless Samaritan Award in Washington DC.
