Statement From Police Union On Call For Chief's Resignation

Posted: 3:35 pm EDT June 23, 2006

PRESS RELEASE

June 23, 2006

THE ORLANDO POLICE FOP LIEUTENANTS UNION SUPPORTS CHIEF MICHAEL J McCOY

The Orlando Police Departments FOP Lieutenants Union, which represents 27 Lieutenants, is concerned with the attempt by Commissioner Lynum, to have Chief McCoy removed from office over his letter that she deemed as an insult and reprimand.

Clearly, Commissioner Lynum has the right to protect and defend her son, but certainly Chief McCoy has the same right to protect and defend all the men and women of the Orlando Police Department.

The FOP Lieutenants Union fully supports Chief Michael J. McCoy in his handling of this incident and is thankful for his leadership.

We also greatly appreciate the support of Mayor Dyer, other elected officials and the citizens of Orlando, who have shown their support for Chief Michael J. McCoy and the Orlando Police Department.
