Crime scene tape was blocking a canal Friday afternoon that leads to Lake Louise. That's where investigators were pouring over the wreckage of the two boats, after a lazy Friday afternoon somehow turned tragic.
"The fact is you've got someone who died and someone who's seriously injured in the hospital. To think they came out here just to enjoy the day and this is how it ended up," commented Deputy Barbara Miller, Orange County Sheriff's Office. One of the wrecked bass boats was partially submerged after the collision at 2pm Friday. On one boat, one man died, 39-year-old Langley Bryant Brown III, and another man, Brown's father, was airlifted out in critical condition. Two men on the other boat somehow walked away with only minor injuries."It looks like one of the boats was rounding a corner, and they were close to the perimeter of land area. That's the boat that had both [injured] people, one airlifted and the one who died," Miller said.Homicide detectives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation into what went wrong."There's nothing clear at all. That's why it's so important to do the investigation, 'cause they have to see if there was a blind spot, if someone was drinking on the boat, or if it was just purely an accident," Miller said. The crash happened on Lake Louise, right behind the exclusive Isleworth Country Club. The homicide detectives were joined by members of the sheriff's office marine unit, who were conducting their own boating accident investigation. The investigation could take a week.
